This is What Makes DNCE Fun!

Have you already been alive in the 90s? If you've been born in early 2000s I'm sure you've heard the Jonas Brothers while growing up. I suppose you're familiar with them already.

How about Joe Jonas? Heard of him? If not then hang on and I'll tell you what you need to know. If yes then you probably know about him too.

If you do know who Joe Jonas is then you should know about the DNCE band as well. Unless you don't have American music and TV shows where you live then I will share who they are.

♥     All About Joe Jonas     ♥

In 2005 the Jonas Brothers were launched as a musical trio, a teen pop band composed of siblings. Joe is the middle child. Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas first became known on the Disney Channel.

A TV series and a movie also came about during the Disney Channel days. At the time I only knew about them through their songs on the radio and sometimes I'd see them on TV too.

They had several catchy hit songs like the remake of Year 3000 and Lovebug among other songs. Here's one of their songs where Joe is singing lead vocals.

I've never really been a fan of them but I did like how Joe Jonas looked. I mean who wouldn't like this face.

As an artist and female of course I appreciate beautiful things and people too. That was the extent of my appreciation to their band. To me their music at the time was not very appealing. I only like the two above-mentioned songs and that's it.

How did his career start? According to an interview Joe shared with New York magazine in December 2013, the brothers grew up as Protestants. Their father was a Pastor thus they got used to being in the public eye. It also meant they had to be role models to other people. Even so, Joe grew up watching punk-rock shows where he realized his love for music.

When he was 10 yrs old, Nick suddenly began singing everywhere. It led to being discovered at the salon their mom goes to, thus Nick started doing Broadway shows. Years later when his younger brother began working on a solo album, Joe and Kevin helped out to make songs for him. When their dad heard their collaboration he said they should play for a music executive. When they did, the executive decided to sign all three of them as a group. They weren't taken seriously as a band until Disney came along.

Yep Disney Channel made them famous. They became superstars but that meant they had to be role models too. This meant they had to avoid having even the slightest sexual lyrics, etc. They had to sugarcoat a lot of things, plus since they had promise rings it was a focus of media scrutiny for a while. A few years before the Jonas Brothers split, they removed the promise rings.

The band broke up in October 2013 and they then went on their separate ways in solo careers. The reason for the split? It wasn't healthy for them to stay together as a trio anymore because they were having creative differences most of the time.

It was Nick who brought up the issue and started the conversation. Joseph (Joe) Adam Jonas  got shocked and became furious at first and didn't know what he would be doing next. Eventually things became better as they chose to be brothers and family first

Soon after the band break up, Joe made an album but it didn't become a hit. In 2015 Joe Jonas and other music mates came together to form a group called DNCE.

This American music group is composed of people who have known each other for a decade or so. (Except for one.) Two of the members have toured and played together with the Jonas Brothers until they disbanded.

DNCE is made up of Joe Jonas (lead vocals), Cole Whittle (keyboards/bass guitar), JinJoo Lee (guitar) and Jack Lawless (drums). As for the music group's name, it's from a song they wrote with the same name/title. Basically it was about someone too drunk to dance. JinJoo also has an explanation for the name origin:

DNCE is dance without an A, which is not a perfect word, but you don't have to be a perfect dancer to dance in life. Sometimes it is never perfect, but you can still enjoy life.

In 2016 they won a Best New Artist award in the MTV Video Music Awards. It's definitely a good thing they were recognized for their music.

If you've heard their first song, Cake by the Ocean, you'll think it is about sex. It can also be about other more innocent things of course.

Most interviews asked them what the song means and they just say, for them it's a dance song. The producers were talking about the cocktail Sex on the Beach until it turned the song title into Cake By the Ocean. The wacky lyrics are definitely double meaning. Lol.

If you listen to most of DNCE's songs, you will notice that they have a lot of love, sex and happiness related song lyrics. Well, if it didn't sound upbeat and catchy, people probably wouldn't like them at all. Their songs sound like a funk, rock and pop combination, which are all what influenced the band.

Their self-titled album DNCE sounds like modern 70s or 80s music. That's what I noticed from most of the songs.  Even Joe's fashion style is kind of influenced by the famous singers of that time like Mick Jagger and Freddie Mercury. You just get that time period vibe off each song. But one thing is for sure, most of their popular songs are danceable indeed. For me their music embodies the sound of fun and parties!

If you like chilling out, dancing, partying and going to music festivals, you'll definitely appreciate DNCE. I know I do. I mean who wouldn't be dancing to the tune of this song?

I'll try my best to go to their show in case they hold a concert here in the Philippines.  DNCE sounds way better than Jonas Brothers in my opinion. It's an adult band though, not a teeny bopper cutesy oriented one at all.

Do you think their music is fun and danceable too? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
